Life Members

The following members have been awarded Honorary Life Membership of BAASA:

Honorary Life Membership of the Botanical Artists Association of Southern Africa (BAASA)

This policy sets out the minimum criteria to be eligible for nomination for Honorary Life Membership of BAASA.

This award exists to recognize the exceptional contribution of an individual to botanical art in Southern Africa, either through the quality of their artwork over a large section of their career, or their significant contribution to botany and the conservation of the SA flora. It is therefore only to be awarded in exceptional circumstances.

General considerations

In considering the award, an individual shall have:
  • Demonstrated significant, sustained and high quality service to the Association
  • Worked a majority of their career as a botanical artist in southern Africa
  • Been a fully paid up member of BAASA for no less than 10 years or worked in the realm of botanical art for at least 15 years
  • Shown valued leadership and been a good role model
Achieving the minimum service levels does not automatically guarantee the awarding of Honorary Life Membership of BAASA.

Retraction of a Life Membership may occur where the recipient has conducted him/herself in a manner that reflects directly and adversely on the image or activities of BAASA. This decision would be taken by the National Executive. The member would be entitled to a leave of appeal.

Process

Any fully paid up member in good standing may nominate a member for consideration of Life membership of BAASA. Each application must be accompanied by a full CV of the candidate, highlighting how they have served the botanical art community and why they are deserving of consideration.

This application needs to be endorsed by the regional committee before being submitted to the other regional committees for ratification.

Please note that this award is a national award, and therefore not to be used by any regional branch in gratitude for services rendered to the Association.
