Botanical Art Worldwide: 17 May – 9 June 2018




Just six weeks to go and the excitement is growing!

Artists are busy completing their framing; the fliers are being printed; the catalogue is in production; plans are coming together for the Worldwide Botanical Art Day; speakers for the Thursday Evening lectures are finalized; artists from outside Gauteng have booked their flights; advertisements and articles placed in magazines.

Venue
We are proud to be linking with the Everard Read Gallery in Rosebank, Johannesburg, one of the country’s oldest commercial galleries having celebrated their Centenary a few years ago. It is many years since we have held a botanical art exhibition at this prestigious gallery.

Opening
The exhibition will be open to the public from 18.00 on the opening night Thursday 17th May 2018. The exhibition will run for three weeks, 17th May – 9th June. All artworks are for sale as will a catalogue.

  Worldwide Botanical Art Day
  Worldwide Botanical Art Day will be celebrated across the globe on Friday 18th May, by all 25 participating countries. In Johannesburg we have arranged two guided walks: 10.00 led by Cape botanical artist Vicki Thomas and 14.00 by Elsa Pooley renowned author of SA wild flower books.
  10-30 – 12.30 and 15.00 – 17.00 there will be demonstrations by some of south African’s top botanical artists, using different mediums.

Saturday 19th May
At 10.00 there will be a guided walk by local artist Jennifer Hyde Johnston, followed by demonstrations by a couple of artists between 10.30 – 12.30.

Private groups
School groups and interest groups are welcome to make contact and book a private guided tour

Card sales
Participating artists will have available blank greetings cards for sale 17 -19 May. They will be cash sales only.

Evening lectures
Three Thursday evening lectures have been arranged.  Booking will be essential as limited searing available, by order of preference.

7th June – John and Sandie Burrows, “The art and botany of drift seed”.

The exhibition is hosted by the Botanical Artists Association of Southern Africa who will celebrate their 20th birthday next year. We thank our two main sponsors: Freshfields Insurance Brokers and Ace and Pearl Fine Wine bar for their generous sponsorship which has enabled this exhibition.
